If abortions become illegal, wouldn't many more women die from the use of illegal abortion? When abortion became legal, didn’t it make the abortion rate go down?

Before Roe v. Wade, many pro-abortionist exaggerated greatly the number of illegal abortions and deaths from the abortions. One line that the pro choicers would use for defense to keep abortion-on-demand legal was that the Roe decision did not make it where there were more abortions. They claim the number of abortions are the same now as they were before Roe v. Wade came into effect. They claimed that 5,000 women died each year as a result of illegal abortions.

In the words of Dr. Bernard Nathanson, “In NARAL we generally emphasize the drama of the individual case, not the mass statistics, but when we spoke of the latter it was always 5,000 to 10,000 deaths each year. I confess that I knew the figures were totally false…But in the morality of our revolution, it was a useful figure, widely accepted, so why go out of our way to correct it with honest statistics?“ Dr. Nathanson was one of the NARAL founders and was once the director of the most used abortion clinics in the Western World. (Aborting America 1979)

Since Roe v. Wade legalized abortion in the United States: (1973)

  • 50 million babies have been aborted
  • 615,831 abortions recorded in 1973
  • 1,330,414 abortions recorded in 1993 which was more than double the amount of abortions PER YEAR in a 20 year span.

Almost half of women that have abortions have had one or more abortions in the past. This shows that abortion is being used more and more as a form of birth control rather than a decision that is made in intense personal crisis.

  • 1 baby is killed by abortion every 25 seconds
  • 2.6 babies killed by abortion every minute
  • 155 babies killed by abortion every hour
  • 3,735 babies killed by abortion every day
  • 108,333 babies killed by abortion every month
  • 1,300,000 babies killed by abortion every year in America
  • 50,000,000 babies killed by abortion worldwide every year
